Adam Sandler was the right officiant for Taylor Swift

Why Adam Sandler was the right choice to officiate Taylor Swift’s wedding ceremony.


I’ve been a professional non-denominational wedding officiant based in Southern California for 30 years. 


Adam Sandler was a great choice as officiant for many reasons.

1. He has a good heart. There are many reports online of people interacting with him in public, and he is always friendly, courteous, and respectful. I bumped into him at a hotel in Beverly Hills. I was wearing my officiant's robe. He looked at me, smiled, and said, “How’s it going?” With no airs of self-importance. 
2. Marriage is important. Adam has been married for 23 years and speaks lovingly of his wife, Jackie.
3. He has the necessary skill set. Stand-up comedian, singer, musician, and live improviser. The size and scope of Taylor Swift’s ceremony (1000 guests, Madison Square Garden) didn’t overwhelm him. 99.9% of wedding officiants would have freaked out.
4. He interacts with celebrities on a regular basis. 
5. He understands the needs of audio and video technicians. Microphones, cameras, staging, lighting, timing, and communication are necessary for a great performance.
6. He knows the bride and groom. He can speak to them as friends during the ceremony.
7. He values the guests. They are more than just the audience. They were specifically chosen to share in this moment with Taylor and Travis. Love and energy flow from the guests to the couple. 
8. He knows his place in the moment. It’s not about him. It’s all about the couple. When he does press for his movies and other projects, he keeps praising the people he’s worked with. A great officiant keeps the attention on the couple.

We don’t know the content of Adam’s ceremony. I’m confident it was heartfelt, funny, poignant, and specific.
